The East (or left side facing from the front door) side of the Ba-Gua presides over the familial area of life, as well as learning and growth. It is ruled by the element of wood, nurtured by the element of water and countered by the element of metal (metal cuts wood in the destructive cycle of Feng Shui) This area is a great place for an office or library. The best colors are green and blue greens.  If metal appliances happen to be in this placement, candles or anything which represents the Fire element can be used for balance (fire melts metal, which is the threat to wood.)  It is a wonderful area for plants or even an indoor green house that would also serve as a reading room.
